Legionellae
Operational measures
By means of a specific control and regulation of the warm water flows in the system, a severe cool-down of the water temperature as well as times of stagnation shall be avoided.
Constructional measures
- Hydraulic adjustment of the circulation systems. A continuous circulation is required.
- Recirculation of the contents in the warm water storage tank in such a way that the total water volume has the required temperature of 60 °C.
- Regular cleaning of the warm water storage tank.
- Reduction of the storage volume.
- Disused pipes have to be dismantled in order to avoid stagnant water.
- Expansion vessels must be flown through.
- Inspection of the pipes regarding insulation.
- Basic disinfection (chemical disinfection by means of chlorine or H2O2) of the complete piping system in case of high contamination with legionellae (removal of biofilms and deposits).
