Why water treatment?

Imagine your everyday life without clean water. No water for your morning tea or coffee, for the washing machine, personal hygiene or for cooking.

Water treatment protects devices, pipes and above all: People.

What does "water treatment" actually mean?

Water treatment is the specific alteration of the water quality.
This means that harmful substances are removed from the water, e.g. germs, micro-organisms, calcium carbonate, manganese, lead, salts.

As early as the 19th century, people were looking for ways to improve water quality. For example, sand filters were used for cleaning. In the late 19th century, chlorine was finally used for disinfection. Hence, water treatment has a long tradition and, since time immemorial, even better techniques have been developed. Today, the exact requirements for water quality are laid down in the German Drinking Water Ordinance.

Not all healthy water is good water

Water is H₂O. But not only. It carries substances such as salts, magnesium, iron or calcium carbonate. Some of these additives are quite welcome. Others at least pose no risk to human health, which is why it is not harmful to drink calcareous water. Despite all this, good-tasting water that is completely harmless to health is not automatically good water. If the water is too hard, for example, it can attack pipes and appliances.

Water softeners and filter systems prevent the often harmful formation of scale and ensure the longevity of all components in the water supply system and connected appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines or kettles.

Treated water can be drunk without hesitation and there is no difference in taste. Those who also value regional products discover another advantage here compared to mineral water. It is usually bottled all over Germany until it reaches your home by the tiresome process of lugging crates.

What are the advantages of water treatment?

Why does water treatment make sense?

We all need pure water, including industries such as beverage production or energy generation. Pure water is indispensable. And no one should go without it. Thanks to modern water treatment, you can rest assured that the drinking water from the mains is healthy and stays that way. Treated water is gentle on pipes and appliances in homes and businesses. No question about it: Clean water raises the standard of living. And water treatment ensures clean water.

  • Increased enjoyment when drinking tea and coffee
  • Value retention of your real estate
  • Saving time & money
  • Protection of resources and the environment
  • Protection for your household appliances
  • More comfortable laundry
  • Up to 50 % less washing power costs
  • Soft skin & hair

High water quality, low energy costs

Efficient water treatment is not only easy on your appliances and pipes, but also on your wallet. For example, a one-millimetre-thick layer of scale on a boiler wall causes 10 % more energy to be used. If a water softener is installed in your home, the costs and expenses are significantly reduced. Maintenance costs for the dishwasher and washing machine are also reduced.

The Grünbeck purity principle

No scale, no rust, no dirt

Water is not always a very clear matter. This is when ideas are needed that effectively tackle disruptive particles: Ideas from Grünbeck. With our sophisticated methods, foreign substances such as scale, rust and dirt are quickly eliminated. What remains is the highest water quality and the good feeling that you're also doing something positive for your pipe system. After all, foreign substances that are not there cannot attack the pipes in the first place. Here you can find out more about the little culprits that want to cloud our water.

Substances in water:

Rust

Rust

Sometimes water has a brownish red colour. This is often due to rust. It may have entered the water naturally, dissolving iron from rocks. Nevertheless, there are many reasons to insist on rust-free water. Rust not only affects the taste of the water. It can build up, causing further rust formation and eroding holes in old metal pipes. This is why our Grünbeck water experts have developed solutions that filter out rust through suitable water filters and flush the pipes thoroughly so that rust deposits no longer stand a chance. However, our products do not only have a preventive effect. To a certain extent, they can also repair rust damage that has already occurred.

Dirt

Dirt

Viruses and bacteria love dirt in water, which is a potential shelter and breeding ground for them. Filtering dirt out of water is therefore also an indirect and important contribution to disinfection. Filtration makes water what it should be: good for people and their health. Dirt gets into the water more often than you think: for example, through construction work or damage to the drinking water supply. That is why DIN 1988 stipulates filters for domestic water installations with metal and copper pipes, and also recommends them for plastic pipes. And that's why we have developed efficient filter systems that banish all dirt from the water.

Scale

Scale

Excessive calcium and magnesium in water makes it hard. We make it soft again and for good reasons. When water is heated, the calcium and magnesium dissolved in the drinking water react with hydrogen carbonate to form scale (calcium carbonate). And the resulting scale is deposited on the pipes. It can make water heating more expensive and cause serious damage to the pipe system for the water supply. That's why we soften the water. In addition, suitable Grünbeck technologies filter out scale or add precisely dosed active agents to the drinking water for water treatment. In this way, water remains as scale-free as possible.

Water treatment ensures safety

You turn on the tap and drink - without giving it much thought. Your child uses water when brushing their teeth. You give your dog water and you water your flowers. And you don't think for a second whether the water might be harmful. Why? Because it's not harmful. It is clean water, not coloured red by rust and not contaminated by germs. This is already ensured by the water treatment provided by the supplier, who delivers chemically, biologically and hygienically flawless drinking water to your home.

Additional water treatment in the household may also be necessary if the water inside the house passes through ageing pipe systems through which rust particles or dirt could get into the drinking water. Micro-organisms can also be filtered out of tap water by residential water treatment systems to improve water quality. But that is not the only reason to rely on water treatment.
